Mold and Biohazard FAQs

Mold Removal and Remediation Frequently Asked Questions

Can we be home during the remediation?

In most cases, yes. We build containment chambers around affected areas in order to keep occupants safe and to avoid cross contamination. If for some reason, we determine that you should not be in the property during clean up, we will let you know.

How long will our project take?

Your estimated timeline will be outlined at the bottom of your pricing table in your proposal.

Are you using chemicals that are bad for us or our pets?

No. All of our products are safe for humans and animals.

Will the musty odor go away?

Yes. As long as the moisture source is located and resolved, the musty odors will subside.

How can we be sure mold doesn’t return?

Part of our process is figuring out why mold developed in the first place. Once we determine what caused it, we’ll make recommendations towards prevention.

What is your process for removing mold?

Each scope of work is specifically designed for your project’s needs. Our complete 12 step process is attached to this email and is also outlined in the “Our Process” document that is attached to your proposal.

What if you find more mold during our project?

If additional contamination or damage is discovered during your project, we will document it with pictures or video and immediately discuss any necessary additional work with you – before performing the work.

What is your warranty?

Mastertech provides a 5 year, mold-free warranty. Once your remediation is complete, you’ll receive your warranty documents via email or regular mail.

How do we know the job was done right?

We perform post remediation testing after every job. This ensures that all surface mold was properly removed and that the air quality in the remediated area is safe.

How long does unattended death, trauma or crime scene clean-up take?

We work as quickly as we can while still being extremely thorough in our death scene cleanup efforts.

Once the New Jersey property has been treated for all hazards and is certifiably safe, the crime scene clean-up process is put in motion. This may include painting, drywall replacement, carpet replacement, sub-floor replacement, and many other services. Mastertech technicians in South NJ will work quickly and carefully to return your property to pre-incident condition. Most restoration efforts can be completed within one day however, in order to properly match up carpeting or flooring, additional time may be necessary to match the correct style and grade of the existing floor.

Who typically pays for MasterTech’s cleanup services?

In most cases, home or property insurance companies will pay the claim for our cleanup services in South Jersey. When coverage is awarded, it is usually under a homeowner’s policy that is not considered to be a “named-perils policy”. Named perils policies usually only covers fire, lightning, windstorms and hail, explosions, riots/civil unrest, smoke damage, aircraft and vehicles, vandalism, theft, falling objects, water damage, and snow weight. These policies are not as common as typical homeowner’s policies. In the event that Mastertech’s cleanup services are not covered by named perils policies or others, we will provide a quote directly to the property owner.

Why shouldn’t I do the clean up myself?

There a great deal of state and federal mandates that govern the bio-hazard clean up industry. There are a number of risks for a business who chooses to perform bio-hazard clean up internally, including:

  • Employee exposure to hazards that can cause numerous diseases and medical conditions. Among these are Critical Incident Stress Syndrome and Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder. Exposure can result in workers compensation claims and other liabilities.
  • State and Federal mandates have been established regulating the collection, handling, and disposal of human bio-hazardous waste. Companies in New Jersey can face serious penalties for not adhering to these regulations.
  • Personnel conducting hazardous water collection and disposal are required to follow specific training and medical mandates set by state and federal agencies. Failure to comply can result in serious penalties.
