It doesn’t take long surfing the web about mold before you’re likely to run into two completely contradictory claims. For home and business owners, misinformation could lead to mistakes when trying to decide how to handle a mold problem. To better inform property owners about mold and what to do if it is found in your own Camden County home or office, here are some of the common myths about mold. If you are experiencing a mold problem, our team of restoration experts at Mastertech Environmental can provide safe and effective mold removal and remediation!

Your Home Should Be 100% Free Of Mold

Perfectionists beware! Every home is going to have at least some degree of mold in it no matter how clean it is. Fortunately, this is not something you need to be concerned about. Mold spores are a natural part of the environment and are all around us whether we are inside or outside. It would be almost impossible (and certainly not practical) to rid your home of all mold. Mold only becomes a hazard when its concentration reaches unhealthy levels. Almost always, this is easily apparent because there will be large, visible mold colonies.

Mold Is Harmless

While you can’t completely remove mold from your home, allowing it to grow unchecked is not a good option either. The health effects of mold are still unclear and depend a great deal on the person, their immune system, and the amount of exposure. But there’s absolutely no question that mold can and will damage your personal belongings and the structure of your property if allowed to infiltrate the property, and that will cause health problems for many people.

Most Mold Is Very Dangerous

As mentioned before, mold does have the potential to cause some health problems, and that should be taken seriously. However, instances in which mold is extremely dangerous are very rare. It typically takes the combination of a person who is unusually susceptible to mold and an especially dangerous colony of mold to lead to any such problems. Either way, you should be very cautious around mold since it is always better to be safe than sorry.

Bleach Is An Effective Way To Kill Mold

Bleach is a strong chemical that is a key ingredient in many DIY cleanup solutions so it should also be an effective way to kill mold, right? Wrong! While bleach can kill some types of mold it usually isn’t able to completely kill a colony of mold. Bleach will not reach underneath surfaces and destroy mold that is growing and spreading throughout the home or business. A good rule of thumb for mold is if you see surface mold, there is more than likely a much larger problem underneath the surface that you are not seeing.

Now that you understand these basic myths about mold, you already know far more than the average person. We hope you find these tips helpful and that you feel more educated when it comes to choosing what steps to take next when mold presents itself. And just know that if mold in your property does ever become a problem, we at Mastertech Environmental, serving Camden County, are always just a call away!
